Bicycle Therapeutics

Bespoke commission

Overview:

Bicycle Therapeutics approached London based studio Green Space to create an identity to support a new phase of expansion and to mark a departure from the visual identity traditionally taken by the life sciences industry. Led by the narrative of the organisation’s unique ‘Precision Guided Therapeutics’ technology, Green Space created an identity that brings clarity and precision to the Bicycle brand. Based around the idea of targeting a source point, just as Bicycle’s technology itself seeks to behave when targeting a tumour without damaging surrounding tissue, this concept was built into the ‘B’ of the Bicycle logotype in the form of arrow-like precision points.

Deliverables:

The Green Space studio were required to tackle the rebrand on three fronts. A new digital online presence, production of highly technical scientific animations, and the complete interior design of their visitor center in Cambridge, UK. We collaborated with Green Space to produce a suite of typefaces for this wide variety of brand deliverables based on a variation of our classic typeface 'New Grotesk'. The main deliverable was to craft a fully bespoke logomark to act as the main stamp for the mission statement of 'Precision targeted therapeutics'. To accompany this we created a headline typeface for display purposes complete with unique capital letters to evoke the targeting nature of the technology.

We had to ensure that the bespoke logomark and custom typefaces suited both online presentation and in real-world environment. In order to support this we crafted scale-based variations within the logomark itself so that at different sizes, minor optical tweaks kept the logo intact.

Over a series of a few months we crafted additional characters for the 'display headline' variation for the brand. This also included sketching Greek characters for the sole purpose of supporting the scientific teams so that they can visually represent their equations and symbology.
